Apple Orchard Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Apple Orchard Manager to oversee and manage the operations of our apple farm in Meaford, Ontario. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in orchard management, crop planning, and team leadership to ensure high-yield, quality apple production.
Job Duties
- Plan, oversee, and manage all orchard activities, including planting, pruning, pest and disease management, irrigation, and harvesting.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize apple yield, quality, and sustainability.
- Monitor orchard health, diagnose issues, and apply corrective measures as needed.
- Supervise and train farm workers and seasonal staff, ensuring efficient operations.
- Maintain farm equipment and infrastructure, coordinating repairs and maintenance.
- Manage budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective operations.
- Ensure compliance with local and provincial agricultural regulations and safety standards.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and distributors.
- Report to ownership on farm performance, yields, and any operational challenges.
Terms of Employment
- Full-time, permanent position, 40 hours per week
- Salary: $100,000 per year ($48.07 per hour)
- Bonus: Eligible for a performance-based bonus of up to $50,000 annually
- Vacation: 2 weeks per year, possibility of more upon agreement with employer
- Benefits: No additional benefits offered
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Post-secondary education in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field is preferred. Work experience can compensate for education.
- Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in orchard or farm management, with a strong understanding of apple production.
- Language: Good command of English speaking is required.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of apple tree cultivation, pest and disease control, and soil management.
- Experience in farm machinery operation and maintenance.
- Familiarity with irrigation systems and sustainable farming practices.
- Advanced expertise in weather protection systems is mandatory.
- Leadership & Management Skills: Ability to lead a team, train staff, and oversee daily farm operations efficiently.
- Other Requirements: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in outdoor conditions throughout the growing season.
