Job description:
SUMMARY
The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, in applying special education techniques and methods within the context of an intervention plan, or a program intended for students requiring special support.
DUTIES
- Together with the student, and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, he/she selects measures to be taken to achieve the objectives determined in the intervention plan, prepares his/her action plan and applies these measures; he/she evaluates achievement of the objectives and participates in the evaluation of the plan.
- He/she supports the student in his/her learning and in certain activities according to his/her competencies; he/she develops and adapts the necessary tools for his/her interventions and uses communication techniques adapted to their needs.
- He/she gives workshops to students to teach them how to use and adapt software (Word Q, Speech Q, Antidote, or other pertinent aps/tools) to assist them in their learning.
- He/she observes the situation and intervenes with students in reaction to their environment and provides them with a helping relationship; in a crisis, uses intervention techniques that can favor the restoration of calm and order; coaches them in their behavior modification process; supports the teacher to favor an environment conductive to learning.
- He/she records his/her observations and interventions, keeps records and submits reports.
- He/she meets the students, and the personnel concerned to sensitize, advise and inform them and provide them with the relevant documentation and referrals, if necessary, communicates with external organizations.
- He/she is called upon to coordinate the work of support personnel involved in programs for which he/she is responsible and to train them.
- He/she uses information technology and communication tools at his/her disposal related to the work to be done.
- If need be, perform any other related tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
- Must possess excellent English and French language skills (written and spoken).
- To be a member of the Québec Association of Special Care Counsellors would be considered an asset.

- Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to different situations.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Must be sensitive to the needs of clientele requiring accessibility services.
- Must possess very good word processing and filing skills.
- Must have a strong work ethic and exercise discretion.
