Job description:


Seaside Concession Group is seeking a talented and experienced Chef for a full-time, permanent position in Stanley Park, Vancouver. The position offers 40 hours per week at a rate of $20.00 - 25.00 per hour, with 4% vacation pay. Unfortunately, we do not offer benefits at this time. The start date is as soon as possible, and we are looking for someone who is ready to bring their culinary skills and passion to our team.

As a Chef, you will be expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Menu Development:
  • Design and develop balanced, nutritious menus that cater to various dietary needs, including gluten-free, vegan, low-carb, and other specialized diets.
  • Innovate new recipes that combine nutritional value with flavour and presentation, keeping up with current food trends.

 

  1. Meal Preparation & Cooking:
  • Prepare and cook meals that align with nutritional standards and customer preferences.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and are free from harmful additives or preservatives.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, adhering to food safety regulations and best practices.

 

  1. Nutritional Analysis & Compliance:
  • Conduct nutritional analysis of meals, ensuring accuracy in calorie counts, macronutrient distribution, and ingredient sourcing.
  • Stay updated on the latest nutritional research and guidelines, adjusting menus as needed to reflect new findings.
  • Ensure compliance with all local health and safety regulations, including food handling, storage, and preparation standards.

  1. Customer Engagement & Education:
  • Interact with customers to understand their dietary needs and preferences, providing personalized meal recommendations.
  • Educate customers and staff on the nutritional benefits of different ingredients and meal choices.
  • Create informative content, such as recipe cards or blog posts, to promote healthy eating and nutrition education.

 

  1. Team Collaboration & Training:
  • Supervise activities of chefs and cooks
  • Work closely with the kitchen and service teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • Train kitchen staff on proper cooking techniques, portion control, and nutritional standards.
  • Lead workshops or seminars on nutrition and healthy cooking for staff and customers.
  • Recruit and hire staff

 

  1. Inventory & Cost Management:
  • Manage inventory of ingredients, ensuring fresh and nutritionally rich ingredients are always available.
  • Work with suppliers to source high-quality, sustainable ingredients within budget constraints.
  • Monitor food costs and adjust menus or portion sizes to maintain profitability while delivering high nutritional value.

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma (nutritionist education is a great asset)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment and maintain professionalism
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing)
  • Leadership experience with a team of up to 15 people
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends
  • Ability to provide at least one professional reference upon request
