Nature of position:      Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)

Wage:                          $22.60 per hour

Vacation:                     4% in lieu of paid vacation days

JOB DUTIES

 

The following duties will be performed in this position:

  • Supervise and co-ordinate sales staff, cashiers, and other staff members;
  • Hire and train or arrange for the training of new sales staff, prepare work schedules, and monitor and report on performance;
  • Lead the selling on the floor, front-of-house operations, and team touch-bases when a manager is not present;
  • Assist store manager with staff meeting and training;
  • Authorize payments and the return of merchandise;
  • Resolve issues that may arise, including customer requests, complaints, and supply shortages; Also Identify current or foreseen operating situations and inform store manager in a timely manner to facilitate a solution;
  • Perform key holding and managerial duties such as opening and closing the store, developing, and implementing marketing strategies, and signing for deliveries;
  • Help foster an inclusive culture by treating customers and colleagues with respect;
  • Lead staff specialists’ team to enhance sales, service levels and membership conversions;
  • Demonstrate exceptional product knowledge and offer thoughtful and honest advice;
  • Innovate ways to improve efficiency, morale, operations, profits, sales, etc.;
  • Participate in ongoing training by attending leadership conferences, relevant courses, sales seminars, and similar events;
  • Assist with developing marketing strategies by creating mailers, launching online advertising campaigns, and promoting in-store sales to get customers interested in available products and to maximize profits;
  • Maintain specified inventory and order merchandise;
  • Ensure the visual standards and image of the store are maintained, such as store displays, signage and cleanliness. Also ensure that merchandise and feature displays are properly maintained and changed on a timely basis;
  • Ensure smooth operation of the sales floor and sales staff so they are ready for all promotions;
  • Be aware of shoplifting and act in consonance with company policy, to discourage it;
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation and report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to correct the situation; and
  • Transferring and maintenance of products between stores.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and experience:

  • At least one year of experience in retail sales or one year of experience in the home maintenance and repair industry;
  • Prior supervisor experience would be an asset;
  • Some familiarity with products sold in a hardware store;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to deliver top-notch customer service;
  • Great attention to detail and presentation is crucial;
  • Flexible schedule hours as needed, may include weekends and evenings and holidays;
  • A team player passionate about helping customers and teammates alike;
  • Basic computer skills and experience with tracking and recording call information, filing documents, or updating customer profiles/accounts; may include entering and tracking merchandise, scheduling with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software;
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently;
  • Basic understanding of seasonal buys;
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy boxes and climb ladders;
  • Good mathematical skills; and
  • Must have a Pesticide Dispenser Certificate from the province of British Columbia or must be working towards obtaining the certification.
