Position name:            Café Manager

 

Location of work:        Unit 15 - 5440 Argyle St, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 1T7

 

Nature of position:      Permanent, full-time (40 hours per week).

                                    This position will require shift work, which includes daytime and                                        evening hours on weekdays and weekends.

 

Wage:                          46,800 per annum

 

Vacation:                     4% in lieu of paid vacation days

 

Language required:     English, spoken and written

 

Other benefits:            Free parking available. May receive an annual performance-based bonus, at the sole discretion of the business owner. May receive gratuities from customers.

JOB DUTIES. The following duties will be performed in this position:

 

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of the cafe;
  • Together with owner of the cafe, determine the type of products to be offered;
  • Implement operational procedures;
  • Recruit staff and oversee staff training;
  • Set staff work schedules and monitor staff performance;
  • Control inventory, monitor revenues and modify procedures and prices;
  • Resolve customer complaints and ensure health and safety regulations are followed;
  • Negotiate arrangements with suppliers for food and other supplies;
  • Assist with setup of future locations in terms of staff hiring and training, as well as operating procedures.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS. The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and experience:

 

  • At least two years of experience working in a cafe, restaurant, bar or similar establishment, with at least one year being in a management role.
  • Extensive experience in specialty coffee, including types of coffee beans, growing regions, roast levels, brewing methods, equipment, and culture.
  • Leadership and team management skills, including training and motivating a diverse team to achieve high performance and maintain a positive, inclusive work environment.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to engage with customers, resolve complaints, and provide a satisfying experience.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • POS experience and experience with computers as necessary to effectively carry out the position.
