Job description:



We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Chef to lead the culinary operations at our fast-paced 11:59 Bar and Café in heart of Downtown Toronto, serving a delightful blend of European cuisine. The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in culinary and hospitality management, holding at least a bachelor's degree, and will have a minimum of four years of work experience in restaurant and kitchen management.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee back-of-house operations, ensuring seamless and efficient kitchen activities.
  • Hire, train, and manage kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Develop staffing schedules to ensure optimal coverage and smooth operation.
  • Lead pre-shift meetings to communicate daily goals, specials, and any relevant updates to the team.
  • Create, develop, and refine recipes and menus, ensuring diverse and high-quality offerings.
  • Determine plating and presentation standards to maintain consistency and visual appeal.
  • Order and evaluate the quality of new food supplies, maintaining high standards for all ingredients.
  • Stock the kitchen with necessary supplies, ensuring readiness for all service periods.
  • Assist with financial planning and budgeting to optimize costs and maximize profitability.
  • Handle and resolve customer complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction and positive dining experiences.
  • Ensure the kitchen staff adheres to all food safety laws and regulations, maintaining a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Set and implement kitchen policies and procedures, establishing a well-organized and compliant operation.
  • Manage and motivate the kitchen staff, promoting teamwork and high performance.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen, excelling at project management and organization.
  • Collaborate effectively with front-of-house management, maintaining a cohesive and harmonious operation.
  • Exhibit creativity and innovation in recipe and menu creation, consistently introducing exciting new dishes.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Culinary and Hospitality Management is preferred.
  • At least four years of experience in restaurant and kitchen management is required.
  • Experience with multiple cuisines, including Latin American, French Bistro, and European, is highly preferred.
  • Food Handlers Certificate is required.
  • Smart Serve Certificate is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Demonstrates excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
