Job description:
Continuing Care Assistant (CCA/CCAIT) Full-time 30 - 40 hrs per week
$17.00 per hour
Various locations in Nova Scotia - including Spryfield, Dartmouth and South Halifax Regional Municipality areas.
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses an asset
- Continuing Care Assistant Certification
- First Aid Certificate
- CPR Certificate
Education
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
CCA/CCAIT designation is preferred; candidates with prior healthcare education such as nursing students, internationally-trained healthcare providers, or out-of province personal caregivers can apply but must be willing to complete a PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition) Program if offered a position.
Direct experience in working with vulnerable individuals with preference given to those with experience in community or institutional (retirement, long term care, etc.) settings
Ability to pass a criminal record screening and vulnerable sector screening upon hire
A willingness to travel within a designated area is required; access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license is considered an asset

- Supply and empty commodes; bathe, dress, and groom patients; prepare and serve meal trays, feed or assist in feeding of patients and assist patients with menu selection; weigh, lift, turn, and position patients; shave patients; supervise patients' exercise routines, accompany patients on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to patient care and comfort;
- Take patients' blood pressure, temperature, and pulse; report or record fluid intake and output; observe or monitor patients' status and document patient care on charts; administer first aid in emergency situations;
- Transfer patients by wheelchair or lift for treatment or surgery;
- Make beds and maintain patients' rooms
- Continuing Care Assistant or Continuing Care Assistant in Training Designation/Certification (those that fall under the CCAIT category must be able to provide proof of enrollment in an approved CCA program or be willing to enroll in a CCA/PLAR program + have previous personal care experience)
- Personal care experience is required
- Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license is strongly preferred
